MEET THE FOUNDER

Mia Greenwood

I'm Mia Greenwood. I started Proyecto15 while volunteering with the Princess Project, an organization that provides prom dresses to girls who couldn't otherwise afford one. I watched a girl who'd been quiet all afternoon try on a dress and start dancing. That's where this idea started.

My mom and my paternal grandmother are both Central American — Salvadoran and Guatemalan. I never had a quinceañera myself, but growing up in the Bay Area with such a strong Latino community, I saw how much the tradition meant to the families around me, and how much the right dress can matter on a day like that.

Proyecto15 exists so a family never has to choose between the dress a girl wants and what they can afford.

I'm a senior at Convent High School, running this alongside school, volleyball, and my job at a restaurant here in the city — and I'd like to see it grow well past San Francisco.
